Alfa Romeo Postpones Next Stelvio to 2027, Delays Giulia Successor Indefinitely

Alfa Romeo delays next Stelvio to 2027 and Giulia successor indefinitely, scrapping 2025 all-EV plan for lineup with petrol, PHEV, and EV options on STLA Large platform.…

Alfa Romeo has given European buyers more time to purchase the current Stelvio and Giulia models, as the next-generation Stelvio has been delayed until 2027 and the Giulia successor now faces an indefinite postponement. The Italian brand has scrapped its ambitious plan for an all-electric lineup in 2025, pivoting to a diverse portfolio that includes gasoline, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and electric vehicle (EV) powertrains.

Executive Director Santo Ficili pointed to inconsistent global readiness for EVs as the key factor behind the change. Alfa Romeo will now offer electric options alongside traditional combustion engines and plug-in hybrids, tailoring its lineup to evolving customer demands.

Both models will use Stellantis' versatile STLA Large platform, engineered from the ground up to accommodate combustion, hybrid, and full-EV configurations. Early designs had excluded thermal engines, prompting the team to initiate new engineering work to incorporate them.

The refreshed vehicles promise larger proportions and sleeker, more aerodynamic profiles that echo Alfa Romeo's latest design ethos. During this extended transition, current Stelvio and Giulia models remain readily available for purchase.
