BYD confirma mais um elétrico para produzir na Europa
BYD confirms Atto 2 electric B-SUV for production at Hungarian plant, joining Dolphin Surf as second of four models to avoid EU tariffs on Chinese EVs.
### BYD Confirms Another Electric Model for European Production
BYD has added the Atto 2 to its lineup of electric vehicles slated for manufacturing in Europe. This Chinese B-SUV will join the Dolphin Surf at the company's Szeged plant in southern Hungary, becoming the second of four models planned for the facility.
No specific start date has been announced for series production of the electric Atto 2, though it is expected to begin in the second quarter of this year. The Dolphin Surf, meanwhile, is slated for experimental production later this quarter, according to Lars Bialkowski, general director of BYD Germany.
The remaining two models for the Hungarian plant have not been revealed, but the facility is designed to produce up to 300,000 vehicles annually. This European manufacturing strategy helps BYD avoid the European Union's 27% tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China.
Beyond Hungary, BYD is constructing a plant in Turkey to build the Seal U SUV for the European market. The location of a third factory remains unconfirmed, with rumors suggesting Spain or Germany; Bialkowski described the decision as involving "a very intense discussion." The company also operates another Hungarian site that has produced fully electric buses since 2017.
