### Chery to Launch Production at Spanish Factory This Year

Chinese automaker Chery plans to begin vehicle production at its first European plant in Spain later this year, after multiple delays. The company aims to start manufacturing its models in Europe "as soon as possible" in 2024, according to Zhu Shaodong, the brand's executive vice president and CEO for the European Union, in comments to Reuters.

Originally slated for 2024, the rollout has faced repeated postponements due to commercial factors, including EU tariffs on electric vehicles made in China. While Chery targets a full launch in 2026, it has not specified an exact date.

The facility is located in Barcelona, repurposing the former Nissan plant that once built the Navara pickup. It arises from a joint venture between Chery and EBRO, a historic Spanish brand revived in 2024. EBRO is already producing vehicles using platforms and technology from the Chinese group, with plans to enter the Portuguese market soon.

In the initial phase, the Barcelona plant will assemble the Omoda 5 SUV in both electric and internal combustion variants, followed by production of the Jaecoo 7.
