Toyota Motor Corp. announced a new partnership with Treehouse on Monday, naming the San Francisco-based startup as the official provider for installing Level 2 home chargers for buyers of its Toyota and Lexus battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) across the United States starting in 2026. The service includes virtual site evaluations, permit handling, and full hardware installation to streamline the process for customers. According to the Department of Energy, home charging accounts for about 80% of all EV charging sessions in the country. This initiative follows similar efforts by other automakers, including General Motors' partnership with Qmerit and Ford's Ford Pro Charging program.
Treehouse's streamlined system lets buyers submit photos and a short survey to receive a customized installation quote within 48 hours, eliminating the need for an initial on-site visit. A single follow-up appointment at home then completes the full setup.
All Toyota and Lexus BEVs and PHEVs from the 2026 model year onward come standard with a dual-voltage 120V/240V AC charging cable that supports both Level 1 and Level 2 charging, providing up to 7.7 kW of power—enough to fully charge a vehicle from 10% overnight. This cable has been standard on BEVs since 2024 and on PHEVs since 2026 across all U.S. markets, regardless of emissions regulations. Because the cable is included, most installations simply require adding a 240V outlet, which is less complex and more cost-effective than a full hardwired system. The cable carries a three-year warranty on Toyota models and a four-year warranty on Lexus models.
For customers wanting faster charging, Treehouse offers an optional hardwired ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 charger, which can reduce charging times by up to 30% depending on the vehicle and setup. It features NACS connectors for 2026+ BEVs or J1772 for older BEVs and all PHEVs, backed by a two-year installation warranty from Treehouse and a three-year hardware warranty from ChargePoint.
Founded in 2021 by Alex David, Eric Owski, and Daniel Francis, Treehouse specializes in simplifying EV adoption through charger installations. In 2024, it expanded its services to include load center upgrades, bidirectional charging, energy storage, and solutions for commercial and multi-family properties. In mid-2025, it partnered with Constellation Energy to further aid consumers' shift to electric mobility.
