Volkswagen ID. Unyx 08 Electric Crossover Starts Presales in China at $34,760 Volkswagen has launched presales for its ID. Unyx 08 electric crossover in China, developed in collaboration with Xpeng. Pricing begins at 239,900 yuan (approximately $34,760) and goes up to 299,900 yuan ($43,450). This positions it above the ID.4 Crozz, which starts at about $21,720 after incentives, and the ID.6 at $29,835. Customers who place a 99 yuan ($14) deposit can enjoy a 2,000 yuan discount, a complimentary home charger, and a lifetime warranty. Production commenced on March 13 at Volkswagen's Anhui facility, supporting its strategy for localized production in China. The vehicle's styling is inspired by the ID. Evo concept unveiled at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show. While Volkswagen dominates traditional car sales in China, it encounters challenges in the EV sector. The ID. Unyx 08 joins a highly competitive market, rivaling vehicles like the Zeekr 7X, Xiaomi YU7, Avatr 07, Li Auto i6, and Luxeed R7.
Design and Exterior The ID. Unyx 08 belongs to the large crossover category. Its front end showcases a sealed grille and divided headlights. Slim daytime running lights incorporate 400 LED elements for dynamic animations. Glossy black trim accents the fenders and doors, contributing to a sleek profile. At the back, interconnected taillight bars surround an illuminated logo, complemented by a discreet spoiler. Practical elements include flush door handles, roof rails, and wheel arch moldings. Available wheel sizes are 20 or 21 inches.
Interior and Driver Assistance The interior adopts typical Chinese EV configurations. It features twin 15-inch displays for infotainment and vehicle controls, alongside a compact LCD instrument panel in front of a two-spoke steering wheel. A gear selector stalk maintains a clutter-free center console, which includes spots for two wireless charging pads. The front seats offer power adjustments, 10-way massage functions, ventilation, and heating. Additional amenities include a 6.7-liter cooled refrigerator, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P processor enabling offline AI voice interactions, and a 20-speaker Unyx sound system. The rear seats can fold flat and recline. Luggage capacity is 766 liters normally, expanding to 1,845 liters when the seats are down. Driver assistance relies on Xpeng's Vision-Language-Action system, driven by a 1,500 TOPS AI chip. This enables Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) capabilities for both urban and highway driving.
Powertrain and Range Powertrain choices consist of a rear-wheel-drive variant with a 230 kW (308 hp) motor or an all-wheel-drive option with dual motors delivering 370 kW (496 hp) combined. Batteries from CATL are either 82.4 kWh or 95 kWh LFP units. According to the CLTC standard, driving ranges span 630 to 730 km. Fast DC charging peaks at 315 kW, providing up to 150 km of range in just five minutes. Presales began on March 26, with promotional offers designed to draw interest in China's intense EV landscape. The alliance with Xpeng aids Volkswagen in strengthening its foothold in the region.
