Guangzhou Shipyard International delivered the world's largest car carrier, boasting a capacity of 10,800 vehicles, to South Korea's HMM in Nansha, Guangzhou, on Tuesday. This massive vessel will enable Chinese automakers to ship larger volumes of electric vehicles (EVs) to key markets, including Europe.

Designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute, the 230-meter-long ship features a 40-meter beam, a 10.5-meter draft, and a top speed of 19 knots. It is powered by LNG/dual-fuel propulsion, fully compliant with IMO Tier III emission standards. The vessel's 14 decks can accommodate a diverse range of vehicles, including EVs, hydrogen vehicles, and trucks.

When loaded with standard five-meter cars, the cargo onboard would line up end-to-end for over 50 kilometers.

This carrier surpasses BYD's Shenzhen vessel, which entered service in April 2025 with 9,200 spaces—previously the largest. It matches the capacities of BYD's Changsha and Xi'an carriers.
