XPeng unveiled its third-generation X9 electric MPV in China, cutting the base price by 50,000 yuan ($7,300) to 309,800 yuan ($45,200), escalating EV market competition.…
XPeng, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, unveiled the third generation of its X9 fully electric multi-purpose van on Monday in its home market, introducing a substantial price cut of 50,000 yuan—about $7,300—for the entry-level version. The base 665 Max trim now starts at 309,800 yuan, equivalent to $45,200, down from the 2025 model's starting price of 359,800 yuan or $52,500. The premium 710 All-Wheel Drive Ultra variant is priced at 369,800 yuan, or $53,900.
This pricing strategy underscores the intense price war in China's EV sector in 2026, where major players are issuing aggressive discounts and promotions. The X9's battery electric vehicle (BEV) edition originally debuted in China in January 2024, followed by a second-generation update in April 2025. Last November, XPeng expanded the model to extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options, which are currently available only in China but with potential rollout eyed for Europe. Outside China, the BEV X9 is offered in markets including Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau, with plans for a European launch later this year and a mid-year debut in the UK.
To drive sales, XPeng is offering various incentives, such as three-year zero-interest financing, low-rate loans for five to seven years, a 5,000 yuan optional configuration fund, and a 12,000 yuan cabin upgrade package. Additional perks include a maximum 15,000 yuan trade-in subsidy, plus lifetime warranties on the battery, motor, and electronics. Previous X9 owners can receive up to 25,000 yuan in cash trade-ins and 13,500 yuan in free charging credits.
Pre-orders for the 2026 model opened in late January, backed by a 2,000 yuan reservation deposit and a 7,000 yuan purchase promotion announced last week. The refreshed X9 stands out as the world's longest-range pure-electric seven-seater, according to XPeng, with three-row electric triple-fold zero-gravity seats configurable for four to seven passengers, 180-degree recline, and airbags. It features a 5.4-meter turning radius, dual-chamber air suspension, and a tire burst stability system. Every trim includes XPeng's Turing chip, which delivers up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power, along with an Automatic Emergency Braking system effective up to 130 km/h.
Coinciding with the X9 launch, XPeng introduced its VLA 2.0, a large-scale end-to-end autonomous driving solution now integrated into the MPV. At the event, CEO He Xiaopeng announced that commercial deliveries of VLA 2.0 will begin next year, with plans for global expansion of its full version. He predicted the arrival of full self-driving within one to three years.
